Irradiated tissue can provide complications during breast reconstruction. Because it firms and hardens tissue, irradiation can also impact breast reconstruction results and cause less than ideal contours. However, a new study has found that fat injections prior to reconstruction can add pliability and elasticity to the area. This can produce more natural looking and pleasing results when used in conjunction with both tissue expanders and breast implants during reconstruction.
Form stable breast implants, commonly known as gummy bear implants, offer a number of unique advantages when used for breast reconstruction. Firm yet supple, these implants are capable of producing a more natural look and feel than other options. They are also much less likely to have aesthetic imperfections such as ripples and wrinkles, allowing them to produce long-lasting, incredibly pleasing results.
