Increased Risks

Many supplements provide health benefits. However, these same supplements can increase risks for things such as excessive bleeding and poor incision healing. Studies have found that herbs such as gingko, ginseng, kava, St. John’s Wart, and valerian can increase postoperative risks. In addition, MSM, vitamin E, selenium, and even food-based supplements such as garlic, fish and flaxseed oil, bilberry, and ginger can have unwanted consequences.

To help reduce your risks and ensure a smooth recovery, it is best to be honest with Dr. Gartside about any supplements you are or have recently taken.
