We all start to develop wrinkles at a different age. There are many reasons for this variability in the onset of the aging process, and many of them are due to the way you live your life. For example, if you smoke, spend lots of time in the sun or drink heavily, you are more likely to develop wrinkles at an early age. But a new study indicates that a reason for early onset of wrinkles may be related to your mother's DNA.
According to a study published in the journal Nature, mitochondrial DNA passed along from our mothers impacts our rate of aging. As a result, if your mom developed wrinkles at an early age, it's likely that you will too. But on the other hand, if your mom had beautiful skin into her 40s and 50s, you should expect to age very gracefully.
The findings of this study are still preliminary, and additional research is necessary in order to improve wrinkle treatments. Hopefully, these findings will eventually aid in the development of new therapeutic wrinkle remedies.
