Plastic surgery procedures always benefit from a little extra planning. When you’ve researched your options, discovered a board certified plastic surgeon operating in the greater Fairfax area, and met with them to explain your plastic surgery goals and develop a plan for your surgery, you may feel like you are ready for the surgery to occur.
However, are you ready for what will happen after your surgery? If you have a surgery that requires general anesthesia, you will need to:
- Arrange for a ride from our practice to your home
- Keep track of all post-surgical medications
- Schedule follow-up appointments
- Know what signs to look for that the healing process is working
- Wear a compression garment over the site of the surgery
- Give yourself enough time off work to have a proper recovery
Because you will still be in an altered state for a period of time following your procedure, everything will go much more smoothly if you plan out your recovery ahead of time. Dr. Gartside’s professional staff can help you sort out the logistics.
Most of these tasks are made infinitely easier by asking a friend or family member to help you with your recovery. They can drop you off and pick you up from the surgery, handle your medications, get copies of the physician’s instructions, and help care for you in the days immediately following your procedure. At the very least, someone should be nearby for your first night after the surgery.
Whether or not anyone can help you, though, this is your surgery, and you owe it to yourself to make sure you have a plan for recovering effectively, in a way that maximizes surgical results.
