As time passes, our faces change and lose the fullness that gives us that youthful look. One of the first areas that is noticeably affected by age and gravity is the mid face region: the lower eyelids to the lines that connect the nose to the corner of the mouth.
As the mid face area loses its fullness and elasticity, it can make our patient appear more tired or older than they are. This procedure is performed to minimize the signs of aging such as:
- Deep creases below the eyes
- Deep creases along the corner of the mouth
- Lines extending to the nose
A midface lift will restore the youthful facial contour that many of our patients desire. For more information about this facial plastic surgery option, please call New Image at (888) 730-4113 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Gartside.
What to Expect
Upon discussing the realistic goals of this procedure during the initial consultation, our patient will be screened to see if our patient is a fit candidate for the midface lift procedure. Some of the qualifications to be a good candidate are as follows:
- A non-smoker
- In general good physical health
- In good mental health and have realistic expectations
Dr. Gartside will examine after our patient has communicated their desires and will offer her recommendations for our patient to meet their goals from this procedure. Depending on the patient’s desires and Dr. Gartside’s recommendations, a lower eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) may be combined with the mid facelift procedure.
The Midface Lift Procedure
On the day of our patient’s procedure, anesthesia will be administered for comfort. Intravenous sedation or general anesthesia will be used and will be discussed prior to the procedure. The procedure may be performed with the use of an endoscope and instruments specifically used for this type of procedure to be placed in small incisions made in the mouth and temple region. This will allow the tissue and the muscle beneath the skin to be altered, removed or tightened in order to correct the source of furrows and visible creases in the face and areas to be performed on.
Our board-certified plastic surgeon will reposition the cheek pads to their desired location for our patient to achieve their desired results. Re-draping of the skin with or without removal of excess skin and tightening of deeper structure will also be performed during the mid facelift procedure: this will be decided prior to the day of the procedure.
Upon completion of the mid facelift, the incisions will be closed with surgical tape, skin adhesive, special clips or removable or absorbable sutures. Using these types of fixtures will allow a successful surgery without removing hair from the incision sites. When Dr. Gartside has finished the procedure, she will apply a protective covering where the incisions have been made.
A nurse monitors our patient in a recovery area. The recovery time varies between each patient. Initial healing ranges from 5 to 10 days. After the initial healing period, the sutures or clips will be removed.
Dr. Gartside will prescribe pain medication for the discomfort. Proper sun protection will help maintain our patient’s rejuvenated appearance. It is important to keep a healthy lifestyle after the procedure in order to reach the full potential and effectiveness of the mid facelift procedure. Please keep in mind that a continued relationship with Dr. Gartside is important for a successful recovery.
