Saline breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. Unlike silicone implants, saline breast implants are inserted empty and filled once they are put in place.
Saline breast implants are desired by our patients who wish for a more young-looking shape by adding size and volume. With a saline breast implant, our patients will get an overall better aesthetic appeal, depending on their personal desires. What to Expect from Saline Implants
When our patient schedules the initial consultation to learn about breast implants, our patient will be asked for their family’s medical history along with our patient’s current health to determine if they are a good applicant for this procedure. It is important to be complete and concise about the medical history to ensure a safe and effective saline breast implant.
This will be the time to ask Dr. Roberta Gartside any questions or address any concerns about the breast implant procedure and all the options and if this style of implant is ideal for the desired results.
The procedure generally lasts 1-3 hours depending on the anesthesia process, the amount of skin being removed and the size of the saline implants being inserted. Breast augmentation may be performed under general or local anesthesia: our patient may or may not be asleep during the procedure. Dr. Gartside will discuss the type of anesthesia to be used with our patient prior to the procedure.
The saline implant will reshape the breasts by adding contour and volume. The incisions are typically made in an anchor or lollipop shape along the natural contour of the breasts. This type of incision will be determined on the size of the implant being inserted. The implant will be placed either below the muscle (sub-muscular) or under the breast tissue (sub-glandular). This will be decided prior to the procedure depending on our patient’s anatomy and personal preference.
Upon completion of the procedure, our patient will be monitored in a recovery area by a nurse. It is required to arrange for a friend or family member to drive our patient home and stay with our patient for at least the first 24 hours. Our patient should expect some discomfort for a few days. Dr. Gartside may prescribe pain medication for our patient’s discomfort and will recommend that a bra or special dressing be worn to provide support during the recovery period.
It is essential to understand the importance of a safe recovery to ensure the proper healing and desired results of our patient’s saline breast implant procedure. Dr. Gartside will provide our patient with proper recovery procedures for the next few weeks of the recovery period.
