kybella patient

Do you have low self-esteem because of your double chin? Have you exhausted dietary and exercise solutions with little to no results? You aren’t alone. Millions of Americans suffer from this aesthetic issue. Fortunately, Dr. Roberta Gartside with New Image Plastic Surgery now offers a cosmetic solution that can ultimately help you get rid of your double chin: KYBELLA®.

KYBELLA is the first and only injectable cosmetic treatment of its kind that has been FDA-approved for contouring and improving the appearance of a double chin, also known as submental fullness. Like any other injectable treatment, KYBELLA can be tailored to meet each patient’s aesthetic goals for an improved facial profile.

If you are in the Washington D.C. area and would like to learn more about your injectable treatment options, give our office a call at 703-742-8004 to schedule your initial consultation.

How Does it Work?

KYBELLA is an injectable cosmetic treatment that can help eliminate collections of fat underneath the chin area. This procedure is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction or other surgeries that treat the fat associated with a double chin.

It is made up of a carefully balanced formula containing deoxycholic acid. This substance is produced naturally within our bodies, and helps absorb fat. Because of this, KYBELLA is classified as a cytolytic drug, meaning that it destroys fat cells altogether.

By properly injecting KYBELLA into the fat underneath the chin, the fat cells can be eliminated, leaving you with a sleeker facial profile. Once the cells are destroyed, they cannot return or accumulate any further.

This in-office procedure takes about 15 minutes to complete, and after you are finished, you will be asked to ice and rest the treated area according to your specific post-care instructions.

Are There Ptoential Side Effects?

As with any other injectable or cosmetic treatment, there is a potential for various side effects. The most common side effects associated with KYBELLA include:

  • Bruising
  • Hardening of the treatment area
  • Numbness
  • Pain/discomfort
  • Redness of the skin
  • Swelling

These side effects should subside on their own within a few days of receiving treatment. It’s important that KYBELLA be administered by a licensed health care professional or board-certified plastic surgeon. If you begin experiencing serious side effects such as difficulty swallowing or nerve damage, be sure to call your doctor right away.

Fortunately, our experienced team at New Image Plastic Surgery Associates takes pride in educating our patients on their opted procedure to ensure proper expectations are set.
