What is Xeomin®?
Lines and wrinkles form from repeated facial expressions over a lifetime. As you frown and even squint, the muscles in your forehead contract and cause the skin to crease and fold. Eventually, as you get older, these lines become more permanent, giving the face an aged appearance.
Xeomin® is a FDA-approved non-surgical facial rejuvenation option designed to eliminate moderate to severe lines on your forehead. This prescription medication is injected directly into the muscles, and works by blocking the signals that cause these muscles to contract. The result is a relaxed muscular base that allows skin in between the eyebrows to smooth entirely. Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, this relaxation of muscles is accomplished without compromising movement.
Xeomin® is designed to specifically address signs of aging by temporarily erasing:
- Frown lines
- Glabellar lines (creases between the eyebrows)
Candidates for Xeomin®
You may be a good candidate for Xeomin® if you have moderate to severe frown lines in between your eyes. While Xeomin® is highly purified and has been shown to be both safe and effective, some people may experience adverse reactions after injection. To avoid this complication, it’s important to honestly discuss your medical history with Dr. Gartside before committing to this or any other cosmetic treatment.

- If you have a disease that affects the muscular or nervous system
- If you have allergies to any of the medicine’s ingredients

Xeomin® Procedure and Results
The treatment for Xeomin®, just like other facial rejuvenation fillers, is a quick procedure and generally takes only 10-20 minutes to complete. Because this is a non-invasive procedure, no anesthesia is needed and requires only a quick injection to the muscles in the forehead. For those who may experience some minor pain or discomfort from the injection, a topical anesthetic can be used to dull any pain.
Results from Xeomin® treatment can be seen as soon as three to four days. As the treatment continues to work you’ll notice a gradual smoothing of the lines between your brows with noticeable results within about a week. You should see a full smoothing of the lines at about the 30-day mark with results lasting for around three months. Results may vary depending on the individual and the severity of the lines being treated.
Xeomin® Safety
Though Xeomin® is FDA-approved and clinically-proven to temporarily eliminate frown and eyebrow lines, side-effects are possible. The most common type of side-effect associated with Xeomin® is a headache but allergic reactions to any or all of its ingredients are also possible. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include:
- Itching
- Localized rash
- Redness and/or swelling in treatment area
- Wheezing
- Asthma symptoms
- Dizziness
