LATISSE® AND YOU

Latisse® is the first prescription treatment to address inadequate or insufficient eyelashes and is FDA-approved to improve the length and thickness of your lashes. Latisse®, made of the active ingredient bimatoprost, was designed to help with hypotrichosis, a medical condition in which hair follicles do not grow as long, thick, or in the quantities they should. This product also helps to treat those who experience natural thinning and shortening of their lashes because of the aging process.

In a clinical trial experience, 278 adult participants across the country partook in a four-month a multicenter, double-masked, randomized, vehicle-controlled, parallel study to help gauge the efficacy of the product. Once the trial period ended, participants were examined to see overall results. On the whole, participants experienced an increase of:

  • Eyelash length: 25%
  • Eyelash thickness: 106%
  • Eyelash darkness: 18%

Research suggests that the additional growth of eyelashes occurs by increasing the percent of hairs in, and the duration of, the anagen, or growth phase of the hair. Lashes can grow longer, thicker, and darker because bimatoprost helps to prolong this growth phase.

HOW TO APPLY LATISSE®

Because of its easy application, nearly anyone can use this treatment to create fuller, thicker lashes that improve the overall appearance of your eyes. Latisse® is available only through a physician and is sold in 30-day kits. Once you have the product, the application takes just a few seconds as you apply the drops to your upper eyelashes once a day, never to your lower eyelids.

It’s important to understand that the effects are not immediate. Clinical studies showed patients’ eyelashes beginning to improve at four weeks with full results apparent at 16 weeks. Latisse® may even offer some hope for those who have lost their lashes because of chemotherapy.

Because this product is applied by you in your own home, it’s imperative to know the proper methods of application for safe use. To ensure its effectiveness and safety, please note the following:

  • Only use the supplied sterile applicators to apply the medicine
  • Do not apply the medicine to your lower eyelids or the inside of the eyes
  • Always use the bottle and applicator safely. Contamination with bacteria can cause an infection
  • Remove your contacts prior to use and wait 15 minutes before reinserting

Dr. Gartside will instruct you in the appropriate use and handling care before you begin your treatment. With prolonged use of Latisse®, you’ll be able to enjoy natural-looking, beautiful, and thick eyelashes.

If you discontinue use of the product your eyelashes will return to their normal length and thickness generally within two months. Once the 16 week period has concluded, talk to Dr. Gartside about steps to maintain your newly thick and beautiful lashes.

WHO CAN USE LATISSE®
