The Perfect Peel

Skincare brands offer dozens of options for getting smoother, brighter and clearer skin with ingredients that gently exfoliate, like acids, fruit enzymes and retinol. Although these products are an important part of your home skincare routine, their benefits are limited compared to what can be accomplished with a professional treatment. Medical-grade chemical peels combine potent acids and other skin-transforming ingredients to increase cellular turnover, address common skin conditions and reveal a more refined, radiant complexion.

The Perfect Derma Peel is a popular chemical peel that can give you younger, healthier-looking skin in just a few days. The formula is perfect for all skin types and ethnicities, and takes only a few minutes to apply. If you would like to learn more about The Perfect Derma Peel and wish to speak with our plastic surgeon Dr. Roberta Gartside, contact New Image Plastic Surgery Associates at (703) 742-8004 today to schedule a consultation. We serve patients in Reston, Fairfax and McLean, Virginia, as well as the Washington D.C. area.

What Is The Perfect Derma Peel?

Chemical peels are classified by depth. Superficial peels use mild acids that only penetrate the outermost layer of skin. Because of this, they are safe for the broadest range of skin types, have the shortest downtime (possibly no downtime) and may not involve any actual peeling. Superficial peels can give you a beautiful glow before an important occasion, but their benefits are temporary.

Medium and deep chemical peels use stronger ingredients and require social downtime, but they can improve more deeply-rooted skin issues and provide more lasting results. The Perfect Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that typically involves two to seven days of visible peeling. Its main active ingredient is glutathione, an antioxidant that neutralizes the harmful effects of free radicals and promotes cellular turnover. The formula also contains kojic acid, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), retinoic acid, phenol, salicylic acid and vitamin C.

Benefits of The Perfect Derma Peel

Depending on your concerns, the Perfect Derma Peel can:

  • Diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce hyperpigmentation, including sun spots, age spots and melasma
  • Improve acne and acne scars
  • Minimize enlarged pores
  • Illuminate a dull complexion
  • Promote collagen and elastin growth
  • Improve the overall texture, tone and clarity of the skin

The Perfect Peel is most commonly used on the face, neck, chest and hands.

What to Expect During Treatment

The Perfect Peel is easy to fit into any convenient moment of your day. Unlike many other chemical peels, which require patients to follow a list of instructions in the days and weeks leading up to an appointment, The Perfect Peel requires little to no preparation or preconditioning of the skin. Application of the peel only takes 15 minutes. You may feel a slight tingling or stinging sensation while the formula is on your skin, but it will soon subside. The initial application numbs the skin for the remainder of the treatment. A fan can be used to blow cool air on your skin during the application process to maximize your comfort. Once your peel is finished, you can resume most normal activities right away.

What to Expect After The Perfect Derma Peel

Immediately after your peel, your skin will be red and sensitive as though you have a mild sunburn. Do not put makeup or other products on the treated area and limit sun exposure. If possible, avoid the sun altogether. We also recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and excessive sweating during the peeling process. You can resume wearing makeup on day two but should continue to avoid harsh ingredients and products — such as AHAs, BHAs, tretinoin, hot water and scrubbing brushes — that could irritate your skin.

Peeling typically begins on day three and finishes by day six or seven. Do not pick at or remove peeling skin. Though it is tempting to try to “speed up the process,” the dead skin should be allowed to slough off naturally to avoid adverse side effects. Be vigilant with daily use of broad-spectrum sunscreen in the first week after your peel to minimize the risk of hyperpigmentation. Ideally, you will make daily sunscreen use a lifetime habit to keep your skin youthful, healthy and beautiful.

Enjoying the Results of The Perfect Derma Peel

The powerful combination of ingredients in The Perfect Peel delivers visible results after one treatment. Following your first session, you will notice that your skin is smoother and that your complexion has a fresh, healthy glow. To address deeper skin concerns, such as melasma and active acne, you may require multiple treatments to achieve optimal results. We often recommend a series of two to four treatments applied once every four weeks.

Like with most skin care regimens, additional treatments on a periodic basis are recommended to maintain a rejuvenated appearance.  The frequency of these treatments will be recommended based on your aesthetic goals. The Perfect Peel can reduce or eliminate hyperpigmentation, improve acne and acne scars, erase fine lines and wrinkles, minimize enlarged pores and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin for a healthier, firmer complexion. You can ensure your results are long-lasting by caring for your skin with high-quality skincare products, daily sun protection, a healthy diet and regular professional treatments.

Is The Perfect Derma Peel Right for Me?

Women and men of all ethnicities and all skin types (Fitzpatrick types 1-6) are safe to treat with The Perfect Peel. As with any procedure performed at New Image Plastic Surgery Associates, a consultation with Dr. Gartside is required to determine whether The Perfect Peel is suitable for your skin. A chemical peel may not be appropriate if you have excessively sensitive skin or a condition such as eczema, rosacea or psoriasis. Chemical peels are also not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing. During your consultation, Dr. Gartside will evaluate your skin, explain The Perfect Peel cost and procedure steps, and answer any questions you have about the treatment. She can also help you choose complementary treatments and products that will amplify your results based on your specific skin goals.
