Will Breast Lift Surgery Change My Cup Size?

A study published in the July issue of the Journal of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery suggests that, on average, breast lift surgery reduces breast volume one cup size. The study, initially presented at the 30th Annual Meeting of the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons, was conducted on women between the ages of 35 and 76 with varying levels of ptosis. In all but one case, participants noted a decrease in cup size following surgery.

While the decrease in cup size caused by breast lift is negligible for some women, it can be more pronounced in others. If Washington, DC plastic surgeon Dr. Roberta Gartside determines a loss of breast volume will alter the natural contours of your body, she may recommend combining breast lift with implants. This is determined on a case-by-case basis and centered on factors including your desires, natural contours, and other personal considerations.

Dr. Gartside is a board-certified breast surgeon with offices in Reston and McLean, Virginia. During your consultation at one of our offices she will assess your frame, listen to your concerns, discuss all of your options, and help you determine what will best meet your needs.
